Good thing that my two bros (fellow home computer users) are into computer security too. Guess they learned the hard way when one time our PC got infected and all their saved games (100s of play hours wasted!) were wiped out. Muahahaha! Soon after that, we always had the best PC security program installed. Right now we are using ESET NOD32 AntiVirus (the best ever!!!) plus Comodo Firewall Pro. I highly recommend you use these two programs and constantly update them (via internet). Good luck!

Someone I know works at the Royal Bank of Canada and just received this communication about the newest scam. This is happening in southern Alberta right now and moving. Also in the U.S. This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. The scam works like this:
Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 , Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona?"
When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?"
You say "yes".
The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?"
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works:
The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card".
He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 number to him.
After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number.
But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.
The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

The HammeRuler is built on the notion of Short-Measure Acceleration (SMA). By cutting down on tool switching time (from hammer to ruler and back) when doing short measures, the HammeRuler makes you more efficient. You probably don't realize how much time you spend putting down your hammer to pick up your ruler, and hammering back again huh? Well, here's a simple solution! =)

On the internet, the group calls itself D.O.M Team. I'm not familiar with them, are you?? The five suspects did not know each other personally, but rather just over the Internet. According to the police, one of the group's techniques was to infiltrate Web sites and insert a page of its own. The group attacked some 21,000 Web pages over the last two years, and finally the five were arrested this week in Barcelona, Burgos, Malaga and Valencia.
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported in March that the group had infiltrated NASA's website. The group also hacked the Venezuelan national telephone company's page and the Spanish telephone operator Jazztel. El Mundo said it had contacted the group and it described itself not as a bunch of delinquents, but computer-lovers that raid Web sites to show system administrators the pages' vulnerabilities. Yeah right! That's what they always say ;-)

Apparently yes! Which really surprised me coz if this were the case, it will be real cheap and easy to send faxes now -- which is not what I'm seeing. However, technical difficulties in sending and receiving faxes over VoIP hasn't been completely solved yet. Why? Here's what one website dedicated to VoIP fax said:
The main difficulty is that faxes are a different kind of data than voice. Whereas voice data has to be delivered in real time in order to maintain a comfortable conversation, fax data can be delayed somewhat in order to guarantee that it is completely intact. It doesn't matter if some voice data is lost en route, but if this happens to fax data it creates an error in the fax transmission.Yeah, fax solutions are definitely badly needed to perfect this new application for VoIP. If you'd like to send faxes over your VoIP connection, make sure that your VoIP service provider supports this function. Also, ask them for instructions about how to modify the settings of your VoIP devices (like the ones from www.axacore.com). Usually, just by setting the codec to 711u, some people are immediately able to successfully send and receive faxes. Other users say that they also need to lower the fax baud rate to 9600. Wanna try it out guys??

YES!!! Finally!!! ^_^ I've always wanted an iPhone but I held back after reviews of its lackluster functionality emerged. Sure, I thought it would be nice to be one of the first few people to own an iPhone in our country. But heck, for lacking features that my low-end Sony Ericsson (I had SE T230 back then) phone has, I figured I could wait for a better iPhone, a pink one please! Hehe!
I since got an SE K800i and have been mobile photo blogging with it (check out yes, it's ME!). I forgot about my iPhone fantasy for more than 6 months, and then I was bamboozled with this news from a tech site last week (links clickable!) --
The Apple online store has stopped selling iPhones completely, stating they are currently unavailable. What does it mean? In some way I’m inclined to say “not much.” ... However, since O2 in the UK has stopped selling iPhones and a number of folks have had trouble buying them in stores, we might be seeing a next-gen iPhone in the next few days. Here’s hoping.
Rumors have been swirling about the launch date of the 3G iPhone ... As he did last year, BGR has his hands on an internal memo to AT&T employees forbidding them to take vacation or PL between June 15 and July 12 ... This is leading everyone to believe that the iPhone could and should launch on the 15th ...
YAHOO!!! Or should I say APPLE?! LOL! For sure, I'd be watching this bit of rumor for the next few weeks (only four weeks to go!). If you have any news/tips about the 3G iPhone launch, feel free to contact me. I would appreciate it very much! =)

CUT DOWN ON SPENDING!!!
Yes, boys and girls, it's not a matter of working more or earning more -- but to stop spending on extra and useless stuff. Believe me, the iced coffees and brownies you take on your breaks will eventually add up. Try to live BELOW your means. I will be surprised if you won't have more money after each payday ;-) For more tips on increasing your income, read this great post. And yes, the blogger recommended cutting your spending too!
Here in our country, customer service isn't really that hot a "service". Most of the companies' employees here (even if not in customer service department) will help you when you ask for help in a nice way. However, there are also some who won't give you the time of their day. And I'm sad to say that we mostly get this kind of treatment in government offices. Tsk! Anyway, here's a customer service conversation from dNeero:
In other stuff, Google Analytics for Blogger has officially entered private beta! If you're serious about blogging and your site's traffic, Google Analytics is your friend. It has the most comprehensive analytical tools you can imagine to dissect your site. Best of all? It's FREE! =) And now, for Blogger users, it will have its own tab (see photo below) for easy browsing of your blog's stats. So cool!!! I really can't wait to use it! Read all about this feature HERE.
The lesson in all these? Always use a service that's comfortable for you. Wordpress may have lots of features and advantages over Blogger but I have never been comfortable with it. So I stuck with Blogger. It may be lacking in features, but with its loyal users clamoring about it, the much-wanted features soon became a reality =) Thank you Blogger team for listening! It is worth the wait!

I was just surfing the DP forum (as usual) and was spying on the threads. Then I saw a thread saying Earn $40 a day from Video Sharing Websites and Parking. I see at-least 10 similar threads each day. But then I realized that the thread has reached 6 pages of content and many of the old and good members of the forum has given quite good reviews... The author of the thread was selling ebook with a method on how to make money online with youtube and domain parking. I bought the ebook for $29.99 and used the method... In 4 days, I recovered the money back. And now I am making profit of $5 to $6 a day (completely passive). And it was total 2 hours work.
Sounds really good huh?? I will try this soon enough and tell you guys how it went! I just hope this won't go "out of season" soon. Hehe! You can read Jim Karter's FULL post HERE. Enjoy!

Despite our best efforts, Gmail doesn't yet build itself. So we're looking for good people to keep making it better and better. It's fun and rewarding to work on a product that you, your friends, other people you know (and tens of millions of people someone else knows) use all the time. And if that's something you want to do, now you can learn more about what goes on behind the scenes and apply on our new hiring page.
It's hard to do on a static web page, but we wanted to give you a sense of what it's like to work on the team. Gmail was one of Google's first experimental forays outside of search, so boundary-pushing is part of our nature. We've developed new storage systems (Google never stored large amounts of user data before), new anti-spam systems (using machine learning technologies developed for search), and a new fast, modular, reusable Javascript architecture (Google never ran an AJAX app of this scale before). We try to push product boundaries, too, with lots of storage, integrated chat, and free IMAP -- stuff that just makes things better for users, even if it means an untraditional approach to business. And one of the best parts is that when you go out, people you actually know say, "Hey, I used [that thing you built]. It's cool." (And then they ask you why Gmail doesn't have folders.)Much more is in the works, and we're looking for help, so check out our jobs page and send in your resume.

The first dish was Beef Misono -- beef cubes on top of steaming rice. It was very tender and tasty. I am not fond of meat though so I immediately moved on to the next dish. Beef Misono in Avenida costs P110 (good for 1-2 persons) but our serving was just P35. Cheap! =)
The next dish was Bangus Belly (P90) and this, I ate with enthusiasm! LOL! In our home, we always fight on who will get the belly. And being the eldest, I always give way. Thus, whenever I get a chance to eat bangus belly, I grab it with mouth wide open! Hahaha! =) Avenida's Bangus Belly dish has an Italian taste to it (or is this how Sarsiado tastes like??). It was garnished with kangkong leaves, cucumber, tomatoes and onions.
The last dish was Sizzling Squid (P120) with yellow sauce (or is it gravy?). I love the fact that the squid was diced and very tender. It was served with mixed vegetables. The sauce blended well with the squid flavor so I was one happy diner! =)

First, what is identity theft? According to Wikipedia, it "is a catch-all term for crimes involving illegal usage of another individual's identity" and its most common form is credit card fraud. Identity theft is one of the reasons why my father refuses to shop online via his credit card. I have assured him time and again, that unless he's been really careless about giving out his personal info, he won't be a victim of identity theft (specifically credit card fraud). But my assurance isn't enough -- I'm sure there's a program or service out there that my father can use so he will feel secure using credit card online. And that's where LifeLock came in.
LifeLock offers a proven solution that prevents your identity from being stolen. They will protect your identity and personal information for only $10 a month - and they can even guarantee up to $1,000,000! Currently, there are LifeLock promotion codes that you can use to get discount when you apply for their identity theft prevention service. This is hush-hush but one of the LifeLock.com promo code you can use is RD32 -- this will give you 30 Days Free and an exclusive discount =) If you're interested to avail of their service, don't forget the LifeLock.com Promotion Codes okay??

SME or small to medium enterprises are the starting points of the big corporations of tomorrow. Usually these are mom-and-pop businesses that bloomed. Their major problem, especially when expanding their businesses, is the lack of cold hard cash. Sure, they can always apply for business loans in a bank or lending company, but that would take time. From Yahoo Press Release:
Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global Internet company, today said that it has received an unsolicited proposal from Microsoft to acquire the Company. The Company said that its Board of Directors will evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo!'s strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders.
From Nicki Dugan at the Yahoo! Anecdotal Blog:
Our Response To Microsoft's Proposal
As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Microsoft made an unsolicited proposal to acquire Yahoo! yesterday evening. Since then, we’ve gotten quite a number of questions about what this means for Yahoo!. Right now our board of directors is evaluating the proposal and looking at all of our strategic alternatives, including maintaining Yahoo! as an independent company.
A review process like this is fluid and can take quite a bit of time, so while there’s not much we can say right now, we did want to refer you to this brief FAQ for more information.
Nicki Dugan
Blog Editor
From the FAQ referenced above issued by Yahoo Press:
FAQ: Unsolicited Proposal From Microsoft
Q1. How is Yahoo! responding to Microsoft’s proposal?
The Yahoo! Board is undertaking a deliberate review process. They’re going to take time to thoroughly evaluate the proposal in the context of Yahoo!'s strategic plans. This will include evaluating all of the Company’s strategic alternatives – including maintaining Yahoo! as an independent company. That process will take some time, but the Board will ultimately pursue the option that it believes can best maximize value for our shareholders.
Q2. How long will the Board’s review process take?
A review process like this is fluid, and it can take quite a bit of time.
Q3. Will the Board seek proposals from any other companies?
The Board is going to evaluate all of Yahoo!’s strategic alternatives and pursue the option that it believes can best maximize value for our shareholders.
Q4. What would a deal like this mean for Yahoo!’s users, advertisers, publishers, partners and people?
Yahoo!’s Board is going to evaluate all aspects of this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of the company's strategic plans and alternatives. So it wouldn't be appropriate to speculate about the potential benefits or challenges of a deal. But the review process that's underway won't have any impact on our efforts to deliver value to all of our users, advertisers, publishers and partners – as well as new and exciting opportunities to our employees.

Man, it's a dog eat dog world out there! The latest scoop is that Microsoft is buying Yahoo! According to the grapevine,
Microsoft has offered Yahoo shareholders a 62% premium on their shares to sell the company. Yahoo's latest disappointing earnings announcement helped to depress the stock price, making it a renewed target for a takeover. If ever Yahoo will accept the $44.6 billion bid, Microsoft could boost its online presence dramatically. According to estimates, online advertising will grow to an $80 billion industry by 2010. If they can get Yahoo, the world's heaviest trafficked website, they can definitely pull in a huge advertising revenue. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a statement --
"We have great respect for Yahoo!, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market."

Took a cool "PhD-certified" test over at Tickle to see if I'm left or right brain dominant. I always like to think I'm left brain dominant given my educational background (science HS, BS Bio, MD). But when I finished this test, I was pleasantly surprised to see I'm balanced-brained! Is there even such a word?? LOL! Anyway, this debunks my detractors who say I'm too logical for my own good. See? I have a "heart" in my brain too guys! Wehehe!
When you need to explain a complicated process to someone, or plan a detailed vacation, the left hemisphere of your brain, which is responsible for your ability to solve problems logically, might kick in. But if you were critiquing an art opening or coming up with an original way to file papers, the right side of your brain, which is responsible for noticing subtle details in things, might take over.
While many people have clearly dominant left- or right-brained tendencies, you are able to draw on skills from both hemispheres of your brain. This rare combination makes you a very creative and flexible thinker.
The down side to being balanced-brained is that you may sometimes feel paralyzed by indecision when the two hemispheres of your brain are competing to solve a problem in their own unique ways.

We all know that most of a website's income can from ads -- Google, Bidvertiser, Azoogle, etc, etc. Affiliate marketing ads are also the rage these days. Unfortunately, mature internet users are suffering from "ad blindness" -- that is, they don't click on the ad because they know it's an ad. So, how will you earn from every visitor in your site now? AUDIO ADS! Your visitor doesn't have to click anything, the ad just plays instantly if the visitor IP is valid. And the ads are unobtrusive, just 10-15sec of voice-over. Interested? The go to AudioAdHosting.com and start earning from every visitor of your site again! =)

If there's something I love from dNeero, it's the fact that they create surveys with questions from its members! It's like we are a part of their company.. or maybe, they just ran out of questions to ask? LOL! Anyway, college survey again -- this time with questions from dNeero members =)
